How to read your score: four honest limits

  1. One station is a small sample of the atmosphere. A good day at Boston Logan says little about forecasting skill everywhere.
  2. A few rounds are mostly luck. Look at many rounds and at your coverage before drawing conclusions.
  3. The observation itself has limits: the sensor reports whole °F and the first report can be corrected within 7 days.
  4. Reference lines are yardsticks. Beating persistence is a real step; matching the NWS forecast is hard for anyone.
